Azealia Banks has sacked her label, skipped the ad campaign and released her long-delayed debut album direct to iTunes.

In a surprise move, Broke With Expensive Taste was suddenly available Thursday on Spotify and the iTunes Music Store. “If my album was a baby born on November 6, it would be a Scorpio... My album is a Scorpio y’all! Lol!” Banks tweeted. “Voilà,” she added. “Words cannot express the way I feel today.”

Of the album’s 16 tracks, seven have been released in some earlier form. And yet besides the career-making 212 and last year’s Yung Rapunxel, there are new tracks like JFK, which features Theophilus London, and Nude Beach A-Go-Go, which is built on top of a new song by Ariel Pink. “Desperado is the espresso jam. It’s for the sophisticated caffeine drinker,” Banks tweeted. “Soda is about self-medicating. [And] Miss Amor is daydreaming about you.”

Broke With Expensive Taste was originally expected in September 2012. Years of delays prompted Banks to begin begging Universal Music to drop her. Finally, in July, the rapper escaped: “free at last”, she declared, opening the prospect of a new deal with a smaller label. “Now I get to be the cool indie chick I imagined I would be when I was 14!!!” she wrote.

According to the LA Times, Banks’ record has found a home with the record label Prospect Park, who are releasing Broke With Expensive Taste in conjunction with Banks’ own imprint. Prospect Park have previously released albums by Korn, Five Finger Death Punch and You Me At Six.
