Over the last 50 years, Yoko Ono has been known for many things: she has enjoyed success as an artist, film-maker, musician and activist, and found herself at the centre of the world's attention through her relationship with John Lennon. Next week, a retrospective exhibition of her work opens at London's Serpentine Gallery and Ono will be staging a takeover of the Guardian's art and design site. As Charlotte Higgins wrote in a recent profile of Ono:

Since a groundbreaking exhibition in New York in 2001 re-established her reputation, she has come back into focus as a significant artist, winning the accolade of the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2009 Venice Biennale. New generations of artists have discovered her as an inspirational figure.

Basement Jaxx, Flaming Lips and Lady Gaga have collaborated with her in recent years. Younger visual artists as different as Jeff Koons, Pipilotti Rist and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster cite her as an influence; the photographer and film-maker Sam Taylor-Wood even jokingly calls herself an "obsessed fan".

Participation has been a recurring theme in Ono's work, and next week she wants you to get involved too. As part of her takeover on the art and design site she will be answering a selection of your questions, as well as asking for your contributions to her #smilesfilm project.

This Sunday, you'll be able to catch Ono in conversation with "obsessed fan" Sam Taylor-Wood in the Observer's New Review. But in the meantime, do you have a question you'd like Yoko Ono to answer? If so, post them in the comment thread below, and we'll publish her answers next week.
