Rick Ross has been arrested on domestic violence charges in Miami Beach, according to local police.
The rapper was booked at Turner Guilford Knight correctional center at 6.10am local time on Thursday and faces one felony count of battery by strangulation as well as a misdemeanor count of battery.
Bond has been listed at $6,000, according to Miami-Dade jail and court records.
Local authorities have not specified the circumstances that led to Ross’s arrest or details of the alleged incident. They also do not identify the alleged victim of the charges.
The Guardian has reached out to the musician’s representative for comment.
The arrest comes days after Rick Ross’s ex-girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick alleged that the rapper was physically abusive to her, People magazine reported.
“He saw a punching bag,” she wrote on an Instagram story after sharing images of a swollen lip that she said was caused by Ross. Alongside the picture she wrote: “The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left.”
“I don’t know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me, is a man that never loved me and never will,” Kendrick posted over another image.
“It’s always good until it isn’t,” she said. “If a man hits you one time, he will do it again. Don’t give him the opportunity. Value your life and leave.”
Rick Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, is a longtime Miami resident with five No 1 albums and hit collaborations with Drake, DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj, among many others. In July he released his 12th studio album, Set In Stone, which featured Gucci Mane, The-Dream and Yung Miami.
Local court records say that Ross has retained attorney Bradley Horenstein. His arraignment is set for 22 October.
