When I mentioned your friend and mine Hozier to a colleague she misheard and thought I meant naughties pop rabble The Hoosiers. The hilarity that ensued!

Never sure why this bit exists on the live show to be honest, but Idris is wearing a nice cap so let’s enjoy that for a bit shall we.

I assumed by the name that Band Of Skulls would have a slightly more gothic ‘vibe’ or be a bite more Slipknot. I wanted them to come on and inhale a dead crow or something. This is all a bit ‘Kings Of Leon’.

Two Swedish sisters singing country in American accents shouldn’t really work as well as it does, should it? There’s something completely captivating about them.

Right then. This is the Disclosure collaboration and the most sort of dance one she’s released from the album so far. It’s quite nice, isn’t it? Nothing too scary, but enough of a progression to make it seem worthwhile.

Anna Calvi posted a picture earlier of her sat next to Marianne Faithfull so I think we can expect a bit of a collaboration at some point this evening.

“Plus Jools chats to Idris Elba” isn’t ideal is it? Not because I don’t like to hear what Idris Elba’s been up to, it’s just that it will involve Jools talking to another human being on camera and that doesn’t always go down too well.

Right, enough of the waffle, here’s what we’ve got to work with this evening:

Mary J Blige! Enduring soul and R&B legend whose new album, The London Sessions, was, as the title suggests, recorded in London with the likes of Disclosure, Sam Smith and envelope-opening performance artiste, Emeli Sandé.

Marianne Faithfull! Mary J’s not the only one referencing London in her work given that Faithful’s forthcoming twentieth (!) album - which featured collaborations with Nick Cave and Anna Calvi - is called Give My Love To London.

Band Of Skulls! Hoochie Coochie hitmakers and Southampton’s second-greatest musical export (after Craig David) Band Of Skulls make the sort of mildly diverting widescreen rock that has so far given them one Top 20 album.

Hozier! AKA Andrew Hozier-Byrne, whose single Take Me To Church was a massive hit in his native Ireland and has since been covered by the likes of Kiesza and BANKS’ favourite girl band, Neon Jungle.

First Aid Kit! Swedish sisters whose harmony-laden folk songs - chiefly produced by Bright Eyes cohort Mike Mogis - have enraptured critics and the few people who still buy music in equal measure.

Welcome once again to the comfortable, whiskey-soaked environs of a Later... With Jools Holland liveblog. Last week’s series opener featured what I thought was one of the best performances of recent years in the shape of FKA twigs’ mesmerising version of Two Weeks. I’m not her biggest fan to be honest - the idea of her is more interesting than the reality - but you can’t go wrong with a bit of choreography can you.

Looking at the list of performers for tonight’s show we’re unlikely to get anything similar although I will down a pint of vodka if Marianne Faithful does the moonwalk.
