Zayn Malik, the former One Direction musician, has cancelled all US dates, as well as several UK concerts, for his upcoming tour following hospitalization for an unspecified illness.

Malik wrote in an Instagram story: “To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before.”

The 33-year-old singer said in the story: “I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL Tour. I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z.”

Dates for a handful of shows in UK and Mexico beginning later this month are still listed on his website.

The news comes two weeks after Malik was admitted to a hospital on the day of his album release for an unspecified condition, prompting concern among fans. “To my fans – Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always. Been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding.”

The English singer also thanked “all the incredible hospital staff of [doctors], nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who had helped along the way and continue to”.

At the same time, reports circulated that Malik’s roadtrip docuseries with his former bandmate Louis Tomlinson was no longer moving forward with Netflix, after reports of a fight between the two led to an irreparable breakdown of their relationship.

The series, announced last October, was supposed to chronicle the pair’s trip across the US as they discussed their relationship to fame, music and each other, especially in the wake of bandmate Liam Payne’s tragic death at age 31 in October 2024. But according to the Sun, production on the show, described as “a spontaneous adventure of reconnection, exploration and a lot of laughter”, halted after an alleged disagreement.

Nicola Marsh, the series director, reposted the cover image of the Sun’s story on her Instagram with the comment: “And there goes the last year of work.” Representatives for Malik and Tomlinson never confirmed or denied the alleged incident, and Netflix never publicly confirmed the show’s cancellation.

Malik most recently performed a seven-night residency in Las Vegas. The singer previously announced a 31-date tour for his new album Konnakol, set to begin in Manchester on 12 May. The reduced schedule now includes nine dates, beginning at London’s O2 arena on 23 May before heading to Manchester, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago and concluding in Lima, Peru, in October.

Malik’s first appearance in the US would have been on 19 July in Philadelphia, followed by stops including Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, San Diego and San Francisco.
