Miami Beach police swarmed the home of rapper Lil Wayne on Wednesday after an apparent hoax call reported that four people had been shot.

“Unfortunately this appears to be a ‘swatting’ call,” the department said on Twitter.

Ernesto Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach police department, confirmed that the department received a call around 12.40pm ET from an anonymous male stating that he had just shot four people at the rapper’s home.

Rodriguez said police searched the home and could not locate any victims or a gunman.

On Twitter the department said it handles all calls seriously.

“‘Swatting’ is a possibility but MBPD does not take chances when responding to these types of calls,” the department wrote.

The rapper spent eight months behind bars at Rikers Island jail in New York for a gun-related charge in 2010.
