If the embattled BBC wants to strike a blow deep into the heart of the Tory cuts machine, its top brass might consider revisiting plans to shut BBC 6 Music. It seems that avid music fan Samantha Cameron (“I’d happily pay my licence fee just for 6 Music”) is the government’s early warning system for bad news. Of a morning Sam gives Dave a nudge if she hears hears a bad news nugget and then, according to Telegraph columnist Fraser Nelson, the PM “scrambles his spin team”. If the airwaves are negative news free by the time 6 Music’s lunchtime bulletin is aired, Dave “is happy”. No doubt Sam then goes back to listening to daytime 6 Music – Monkey is sure her favourite band currently on the playlist is the appropriately named Public Service Broadcasting.
