Fake pictures cost Piers Morgan his editorship of the Daily Mirror and today it was a fake X-rated photograph of Harry Styles that outfoxed journalists at the Daily Star.
An early issue of today's Daily Star splashed with the headline '1D HARRY X-RATED SEX PIC SHAME", next to an image of a naked torso said to be that of One Direction's Styles.
The paper was no doubt overjoyed to unearth the scoop, coming just days after a video of Style's bandmates Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik smoking a suspicious roll-up was leaked to the press.
However the Daily Star had something of a volte face with later editions of the paper splashing with an altogether different version of the story, headlined: "1D HARRY FURY AT FAKED SEX PIC".
This time there was no accompaying image of a naked torso. Instead the story began "One Direction star Harry Styles was furious last night after a fake picture appeared on the internet."
Neither of the splash stories on Styles now appears on the Daily Star website. Talk about, er, Two Directions.
