Music Weekly: Young Knives and Cadence Weapon

The Young Knives tell us they're not the sound of Toff-Rock (i.e. they're not posh) - and how their new album of pop tunes has been influenced by folk. And there's mixed opinions of Jeremy Kyle. Plus a new rapper from Canada - Cadence Weapon

Your ears have been waiting for it since last Thursday - Paul MacInnes and Rosie Swash are here for another Music Weekly.

Paul kicks off the programme by speaking to the Young Knives. The band have been described as geek-rock - but it appears the new album "Superabundance" has been influenced by Fairport Convention and Steely Dan. Don't worry though - a fun folk-pop mix has emerged - and they play new single "Up All Night" for us at the end of the show. They also show a worrying interest in Jeremy Kyle and explain why they chose the title for the record (it's not as complicated as you might think).

There's also an interview with Cadence Weapon - a rapper who mixes rap rhymes and dance beats. He hails from Edmonton (the one in Canada, not north London) and tells Paul that as well as his underground west coast rap being part of his listening, Dylan and Nirvana feature too.

Sandwiched inbetween those is the Singles Club review with REM, Les Savy Fav and Clik Clik getting a spin. Paul Lester takes time out from picking another New band of the day to be our guest reviewer - but don't forget we want your reviews of these tracks too.

Tell us what you think of all of this on the blog, and take note: next week we speak to The Futureheads - who left their label after their second album and have gone it alone for their third. Don't miss it.
