Transmission: A Love From Outer Space, Glasgow

Fair play to Andrew Weatherall: fast approaching his 50th birthday and entitled to enjoy his reputation as having practically invented proper clubbing in the UK, he's still giving it all he's got in the studio, on festival stages and in poky clubs up and down the country. Known primarily for his DJ residency at club night Shoom in 1988 and remix duties on Primal Scream's indie-dance crossover classic Loaded, Weatherall's many recording alter egos include Bocca Juniors, Two Lone Swordsmen and Sabres of Paradise. In 2010 he launched monthly London club night A Love From Outer Space with Hardway Bros' Sean Johnston, and it's under this guise that the pair bring their bi-monthly residency to Glasgow's Transmission. Containing low-slung and mildly sleazy blends of down-tempo electronica, Weatherall describes the vibe as "an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity".

Tief Summer Special, London

Corsica Studios' in-house promoters have come up trumps once again with a lineup designed to tickle the fancies of deep house aficionados everywhere. Headlining Tief's Summer Special is the veteran Connecticut DJ-producer Jus-Ed, who began his musical career at the age of six playing drums for his grandparents' jazz band. He started DJing way back in 1982, spinning classic funk and R&B from the likes of Maze and Parliament, yet his recent championing of new-school house talents such as Levon Vincent and Nina Kraviz reminds you that he's never been one to lean too heavily on the past. Main room support comes from Mule Musiq's head honcho Toshiya Kawasaki and Hamburg's melancholy beatsmith Lawrence. Room two, meanwhile, is commandeered by Jay Shepheard's Retrofit label. Berlin-based-Brit Shepheard may call himself a deep house DJ, but his sets, heavy on his own material, are always a little bit tangier and chewier than that label suggests. Shepheard brings with him disco playboy Tad Wily and the mysterious Iron Curtis.

System 909, Cardiff

With a mission to promote unpretentious good-time partying, System 909 have been making a right racket in 10 Foot Tall's Basement mini-club for the last few years. This Friday sees the second half of System's birthday shindig which kicked off earlier this month with a knockout show from techno stalwart Mark Broome. Hoping to keep the temperature as high as it was that night is English DJ-producer David Robertson (AKA Reset Robot), a name that should be familiar to fans of dubbed-out, moody tech house worldwide. System 909's reliable regulars will also be on hand, Paul Blandford, Matt Griffin, Anthony Watkins and JLD among them.

Dimensions Festival Launch, Manchester

The recent British weather means that summer festivals abroad are becoming ever more popular. One is the Dimensions Festival in Pula, Croatia (6-9 Sep), which has a great international lineup that this year includes Moodymann, Little Dragon, Four Tet and Marcel Dettmann. Prior to that, the festival is hosting some profile-raising UK launch parties, including this. None of the real top-flight names will appear but Sankeys guarantees a certain quality that tonight's guests, Welsh house duo Doc Daneeka and Benjamin Damage, will have to live up to.

Farr Festival, Newnham

After the Bloc debacle, you'd be forgiven for regarding all dance festivals with suspicion. But Farr is an altogether smaller and lower-key affair, with two successful years at the same Hertfordshire location under its belt. Friday's highlights include live sets from precocious teen duo Bondax and towering MC XO Man, primetime DJ sets from Huxley and Eats Everything, plus a stage hosted by the Sancho Panza soundsystem.
