Buika: En Mi Piel (Best Of) – review

Buika's 'best of' double album should win the sultry Spanish vocalist a new following here, writes Neil Spencer

Feted in Europe for her smoky vocals and flamenco-soul fusions, this Spanish diva has yet to make an impact here, though her melodramatic theme tune for Pedro Almodóvar's The Skin I Live In will surely have turned ears her way. "Por El Amor de Amar" opens a two-CD selection of her output, most of it in a jazzy, nu-flamenco style created by guitarist/producer Javier Limón. The slinky "No Habra Nadie" and "En El Ultimo Trago", featuring Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes, are among the standouts, with cheesier tracks such as "Talk to Me" and "You Get Me", a duet with Seal, in support.
