In September 1981, the Clash played a seven-night residency at the Theatre Mogador in Paris. Post-Sandinista!, pre-Combat Rock, this incarnation of the rebel-rockers – one that was obsessed with dub, funk, hip-hop and Latin America – would influence a generation of French musicians. The audience for those shows included a veritable who's who of French music – Manu Chao, Rachid Taha, members of Les Négresses Vertes, Lo'Jo, Bérurier Noir, Kortatu and MC Solaar – who'd all go on to create their very own Gallic take on Combat Rock.
