
Madonna is reportedly lining up to play Candy Darling, the drag queen immortalised in Andy Warhol's Flesh (1968), for free, according to the Sun. An anonymous source told the tabloid that the singer-turned-actor "has been desperate to make a film where she can earn respect for her acting abilities. She is still trying to shake off the bad publicity from the movie Swept Away". Further details about the planned film were unforthcoming.
Ice Cube may be a talented rapper and actor, but can he turn his talents to an imitation of Mr Suave himself, Cary Grant? Revolution Studios are remaking a Grant film, Mr Blandings Builds his Dream House, and are apparently set to cast Ice Cube as the title character - a role first played by the dapper Grant. The original film, made in 1948, starred Grant and Myrna Loy. The updated version is to be directed by Steve Carr, who also directed Ice Cube in Next Friday.
Ben Affleck and Diane Lane are to take the starring roles in Truth, Justice and the American Way, the story of an LA detective determined to solve the mysterious death of TV's Superman, George Reeves. Adrien Brody has already been cast, as the DI investigating Reeves's death, while Affleck will play Reeves himself.
Susan Sarandon is joining Sean William Scott and Billy Bob Thornton in the cast of Mr Woodcock. The comedy stars Sean William Scott as a young man who tries to stop his mother (Sarandon) from marrying his old gym teacher (Thornton).
Joy Bryant (from 2002's Antwone Fisher) is to star opposite 50 Cent in a new action adventure film to be directed by In America's Jim Sheridan. The film is about a drug dealer turned rapper.
Tom Welling of Smallville fame will star in the remake of the horror film The Fog. John Carpenter, who helmed (and co-wrote) the original, is producing the remake. It is being directed by Rupert Wainwright.
Alan Cumming, currently on our screens in the Mask sequel Son of the Mask, is to star in the directorial debut of David Boreanaz, better known as Buffy the Vampire Slayer's love interest in the TV series. Cumming is to play a crazy music teacher in Suffering Man's Charity. He was also due to play a gay cabaret actor coaching a rugby team in Coming Out, for Catherine Zeta-Jones's production company, but it seems the project is on hold. "I don't know if that one is ever going to get made. I haven't heard anything from Catherine for a while now," Cumming told the Winnipeg Sun.
